Make the Conditions Carry the Promise

[!quote] Field Note A promise becomes durable only when the conditions, authority, and feedback that carry it are visible.

[!summary] The Reader Promise Test whether a program or tool has the support, authority, and feedback needed to produce a durable result.

The Field Note

[!example] Practical frame Before expanding a program, tool, or organizational change, name the value it should create, the conditions it depends on, the authority that owns those conditions, and the evidence that would trigger revision.

Four sources show why a plan needs support around it. The Federal Reserve’s household data show that a broad gain can hide strain for some families. NASA sets out the timing and coverage of mission work. Kauffman’s account of Project Choice describes the support and shared work behind an offer of access. MIT Sloan’s new courses bring tools together with judgment, rules, and practice.

These sources do not prove one common cause. They suggest a simple test: name what the plan needs to work, who can provide it, and what evidence would change the plan.
