Build the Conditions Before You Scale the Promise

[!quote] Field Note A promising idea becomes more durable when its people, partnerships, capabilities, and evidence are visible.

[!summary] The Reader Promise Use four current examples to identify the capabilities, partners, and evidence required before expansion.

The Field Note

[!example] Practical frame Before expanding a program, name the essential work, accountable owner, support gap, partner role, and evidence that would change the plan.

The World Bank Group’s new Philanthropy Hub treats connections among capital, knowledge, and partners as part of the path to wider development work. Kauffman’s Red Tail Academy account shows a founder-led program adding fundraising and revenue capacity as it grows.

AACSB’s research-impact framework asks business schools to look beyond publication and citation counts toward use across practice, policy, education, and society. MIT Sloan’s management analysis similarly argues that firms create value from widely available AI through trust, data, expertise, governance, and redesigned work.

These are different institutional examples. They do not prove one scaling formula. They support a practical test: name what must be built around the promise before the promise is expanded. Make the decision owner, support system, partner network, and revision evidence explicit.

Mental Model Lens

[!tip] Thinking Tool Mental model: Ability to Adapt
Useful idea: Durable work requires attention to changing conditions and the details that let people adjust well.
Use today: Treat the support system around a promising idea as part of the idea, then test which condition must adapt first.

Use It Today

[!question] For Students Map one program’s promise, essential work, decision owner, partner roles, and evidence that someone actually used it.

[!question] For Managers And Founders Before expanding, identify the capability or control your team lacks and name the smallest test that could expose the gap.
