Build Capacity Around the Human Decision
[!quote] Field Note Good systems protect human judgment by making capacity, accountability, and learning visible.
[!summary] The Reader Promise Test whether a system protects judgment, supports access, and names the authority behind its next move.
The Field Note
[!example] Practical frame Before expanding a program, tool, or organizational change, identify the human capability it depends on, the institution that owns it, and the evidence that would trigger revision.
Today’s sources show four ways capacity becomes visible. HBR reports that workplace norms can make sleep deprivation an organizational condition. Kauffman profiles an aviation program whose pathway depends on exposure, mentorship, fundraising, and durable program capacity. The Federal Reserve shows a formal decision changing the structure of local banking institutions. MIT Sloan reports curriculum changes that connect AI and deep-tech work to governance, judgment, and commercialization.
These sources do not prove one common cause. They support a practical test: when a system expands, ask what human capability it protects, who owns the operating decision, and what evidence would make the plan change.
