Name What Is Finished Before Moving On
[!quote] Field Note Closing an action is a decision with a scope. Make that scope clear enough for others to use.
[!summary] The Reader Promise Check what a closure notice actually settles, then record the questions that still need review.
The Field Note
[!example] Try this At the end of a corrective task, write what ended, when it ended, and what remains outside that decision.
The U.S. Federal Reserve’s October 16 notice announces the termination of enforcement actions involving Gardner Bancshares and Small Business Bank. It identifies the institutions, prior actions, and termination dates. That public record makes the closure traceable.
The notice does not prove that every business risk has disappeared. A completed corrective action and a broad judgment about future performance answer different questions. Readers need to know which question the evidence settles.
Apply that distinction when your team closes a project, resolves a complaint, or ends a review. State the task that is complete and the evidence used to close it. Keep any remaining question visible, with a date for its next check. This is a proposed management practice, not a finding about the banks.
Before moving on, ask a colleague to explain what the closure means. If their answer is broader than the evidence, narrow the wording. Watch whether the next handoff creates fewer questions about work that is still open.

[!tip] Thinking Tool Mental model: Defeat is Psychological (October 18, 2026)
Useful idea: An attachment to being right can distort how we read facts. This is a practitioner reflection, not a causal finding.
Use today: Read the completion evidence before defending the story you hoped to tell.
