Give Small Experiments a Funding Decision

[!quote] Field Note Permission to try an idea becomes useful when people know how the next resource decision will be made.

[!summary] The Reader Promise Choose a small employee-led test, set its review date, and explain what evidence could earn more support.

The Field Note

[!example] Try this Invite one team to test a problem it understands. Agree on a small budget, a review date, and the result worth discussing.

An October 14 Harvard Business Review case describes OCP, the Moroccan company, and its approach to employee-led innovation. Its Le Mouvement initiative let people form projects around a shared purpose. Demo days, peer voting, expert review, and staged funding gave ideas a route toward more support.

The case offers a practical distinction between inviting ideas and deciding which tests receive resources. It does not prove that OCP’s approach produces the same results in other firms. The authors disclose professional relationships connected to the case.

Use the example to examine your own suggestion process. Can an employee name a small test, get a timely review, and learn why it did or did not earn support? A clear response makes the next attempt easier to design.

Choose one proposal this week. Ask the person closest to the problem what they need to learn first. Fund a bounded test if it fits the team’s purpose and capacity. At review, decide whether to continue, revise, or stop, and explain the evidence behind the choice.
