The Field Note

[!example] Try this With the responsible staff, rehearse one service using approved backup procedures. Record the first step the team cannot complete.

An October 12 Harvard Business Review article examines preparation for a cyber disruption. Its authors report research involving 1,000 senior executives across 20 industries in 13 countries. The public summary argues that firms need to operate while parts of their technology remain unavailable.

The practical question is what your team can still do under those conditions. A plan may name a backup system without showing whether staff can use it. A small rehearsal can reveal the missing instruction, inaccessible record, or delayed decision.

Choose one essential task with the people who deliver it. Agree on a safe test that does not disrupt live services. Use approved backup procedures and involve the responsible security staff. Record the first blocked step, assign a repair, and test that step again.

The accessible article excerpt does not prove that a specific recovery method works everywhere. This exercise is a proposed practice, not a reported result. Judge it by what staff can complete and what the test reveals.
